SPINDLE CELL NEVUS WITH A PROMINENT LYMPHOCYTE REACTION

An occasional spindle cell nevus (Spitz) will have a lymphocyte reaction that is so prominent that the basic nature of the lesion is obscured.

From a child:

Composite scan view of this symmetrical lesion. Arrows point to peripheral lymphocyte aggregates.
Low power view of the top of this dome shaped lesion.
High power view of above. The pink blobs in the junctional area are Kamino bodies.
High power view of reticular dermis. Arrow points to a poorly-defined fascicle composed of spindle cells. Lymphocytes are found diffusely in the dermis.
