NEUROFIBROMA, INTRANEURAL
Subcutaneous neurofibromas are often intraneural and, therefore,  sharply circumscribed. Cords of collagen fibers are more common than the more uniform delicate fibers found in diffuse intradermal or diffuse subcutaneous neurofibromas. A few atypical cells, as are seen in this case, are of no significance in the absence of mitotic figures.
Scan power showing the sharply demarcated outer border of the tumor.
Medium power of above. Large cords of collagen bundles are separated by slightly mucinous stroma.
High power of above.  Note several hyperchromatic, slightly pleomorphic nuclei. No mitoses were found, and the patient does not have neurofibromatosis clinically.
