MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUSM
This is a virus induced lesion that usually involves follicles though the
follicular architecture may no longer be recognizable. Involvement of cysts
of follicular derivation can occur. The degree of inflammation varies from
absent to very severe from case to case. Some lesions are surrounded by
edematous or myxoid stroma that can cause confusion when tangentially cut.
Ruptured lesions or lesions that have almost been destroyed by inflammation
may only be recognized after finding 'molluscum bodies' in the inflammatory
infiltrates.
