LENTIGO MALIGNA AND BASAL CELL CARCINOMA, EXCISIONAL SPECIMEN
A composite low power view from the excisional specimen. Use your horizontal scroll bar to pan the image. Atypical lentiginous melanocytic hyperplasia is present, and there are a few areas where the melanocytes are stacked up in a manner that is consistent with lentigo maligna in this setting of sun damage. The edge of probable basal cell carcinoma is in the right side of the picture.

A composite medium power view from the excisional specimen. Use your horizontal scroll bar to pan the image. Lentiginous hyperplasia of cytologically atypical melanocytes is present. There is a cluster (CL) of such cells by the arrow, and this combination is diagnostic for lentigo maligna when associated with more than minimal solar elastosis.
