GLOMANGIOMA
This glomangioma is from a 15 year old male. Glomangiomas are characterized by the presence of glomus cells in the background of a lesion within which blood vessels are very prominent. This is in contrast to glomus tumors wherein the glomus cells are more prominent than the vessels. Sometimes the red blood cells will have spilled out of the vessel during the biopsy procedure and there will be large spaces associated with multiple layers of cells that can be mistaken for acrosyringeal type epithelial cells.

Composite scan power view. The large spaces are vascular channels.
Low power view from near the bottom of the specimen. Columns and ribbons of glomus cells are associated with some of the vessels.
High power view of above. This is a ribbon of glomus cells. These have a very monotonous appearance.
Another high power view. These glomus cells are just peripheral to the endothelial lining of the vascular space.
