DUCTAL STRUCTURES IN A DESMOPLASTIC TRICHOEPITHELIOMA

Ductal structures are found in a minority of desmoplastic trichoepitheliomas. Since combined follicular and sweat duct differentiation plus infiltration are characteristic of microcystic adnexal carcinomas, cases such as this must be interpreted with caution. All of the other features in this case are those of a desmoplastic trichoepithelioma, and there are no other areas in this case having the features of a microcystic adnexal carcinoma.

Ductal structures that could either represent sweat duct differentiaton or sweat duct 'over run' by tumor.
Ductal structure continuous with epithelium that forms a microcyst. Note the characteristic wrapping of collagen around the solid cords of tumor.
